Nico Purman – Record Of The Day

The Argentinean producer talks us through the disco-inspired techno of his Fade Away EP for Crosstown Rebels…

Nico Purman
Fade Away EP (Fade Away, Falling, Melina, Think)

Describe the record in five words.
Spacey funk synth pop house.

What is it about this record that will appeal to the fans?
The different styles that make up the four tracks. You have Fade Away, Falling and Melina all with varying moods, and then Think is a 100bpm track that is very special to me.

How does it differ from your last release?
I think it’s a continuation of what I did on my last EP, Visions on Vakant, and goes further. It took one year to be released and at the end there were five tracks and for vinyl space reasons Crosstown chose four tracks, two on vinyl and two on digital. And as I listened to the tracks so many times and made so many different mixes that was a good result for me. This year I’m releasing two EPs of four tracks each, kind of seeing them as mini-albums, because the tracks are all really different.

What was the inspiration for this release?
Electro and electronica; Jean Michel’s Jarre Oxygene – I bought the vinyl in a flea market and it’s super trippy the entire album – some Tangerine Dream as well; some funk and pop from the 80s; and the way Prince programmes the Linndrum. They all inspired me a lot.

If you had the chance to play this in any club, which would it be?
I want to hear it in Fabric Room One.

“Fade Away is nice – it’s not as laidback as a lot of the disco-fused stuff that is out at the moment. It’s a bit more party which I like!â€
