Glimpse

The ever-inventive producer talks to EQTV via webcam to give us the lowdown on his debut album, Runner…

Christopher Spero, aka Glimpse, has been steadily building an army of followers for the past few years, with records out on Carl Craig’s Planet E, Cadenza, Kindisch and Buzzin Fly, so when his debut album, Runner, arrived on Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels, there was more than a slight buzz of excitement about it. The LP turned out to be a beauty, drawing on a whole raft of influences to create a selection of tracks you’ll struggle to tire of.

“I have always been drawn to the smokey lo-fi aesthetic of old recordings,” says Glimpse. “This was something I wanted to capture on the album, warm and rhythmical but never abrasive or intrusive and hopefully something that you will want to come back to. As an artist it’s very important to me to be as honest as possible when I produce and I wanted to show people my influences and portray exactly the way I feel about music on the album, aiming to narrow the gulf between thought and expression.”

We caught up with Christopher at his London home to find out more about the making of the album and his obsession with analogue equipment.
