It’s a night that we’ve been meaning to get along to for some time now, mainly because it’s guests are always a little bit special, so when we heard that Animal Farm had booked up Marcel Fengler and Ryan Elliott for a Ostgut Ton party to help celebrate the Berlin label’s fifth birthday this year, we finally got our acts together and headed to the Sub Club. We weren’t disappointed…
Fengler is one of the cornerstones of Berghain, the Berlin club that’s home to Ostgut Ton. Detroit ex-pat Elliott is a new signing, but he’s already making waves. He’s mixed just mixed a special cassette for the label that looks back over the imprints five-year history and features tracks by the likes of Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Prosumer, Len Faki, Ame, Shed and loads more. A unknown number of copies have been given to a few select record stores, but according to label manager Nick Hoppner: “It’s a free give away, no mail-order and when it’s gone it’s gone.”
Ostgut Ton has also just dropped a new compilation called Funf, consisting of a load of tracks by label favourites created using found-sound recordings inside an empty Berghain.
Funf is out now on Ostgut Ton Ryan’s mixtape, 5 Years in 60 Minutes, will be available at select events in Berlin and London. Visit www.animalfarmdjs.co.uk and www.ostgut.de
