Nick Warren

The Way Out West DJ and producer plays Colours’ Bedrock party at the Arches in Glasgow and talks about his Balance mix album…

The Balance series hasn’t put a foot wrong since it launched back in 2001, shaking up the compilation market with its forward-thinking approach. Highlights – and they’ve been very high – have included albums from James Holden, Luke Fair, Desyn Masiello, Joris Voorn, Will Saul and Agoria. So Way Out West’s Nick Warren had his work cut out for him when it came to tackling Balance 018. Obviously, with a host of excellent Global Underground mixes to his name, Nick is no slouch when it comes to mix albums, but this one is up with the best of them. So when he arrived in Glasgow to play Colours’ Bedrock party, we caught up with him to talk about his take on the Balance series, the importance of finding new talent, working solo and what’s next for Way Out West. We also caught some of his set – where he was joined behind the decks for an impromptu back-to-back session with Omid 16b (watch out for our interview with him coming soon).
