Djamel – Voyeurism In High Definition – Record Of The Day

Irish producer Djamel talks us through his slight change of tack on new release Voyeurism In High Definition…

Djamel
Voyeurism In High Definition (Original, Corrugated Tunnel Remix, Lo-Def Mix)

Describe Voyeurism In High Definition in five words.
One-hundred percent melody-driven.

What is it about this record that will appeal to the fans?
It’s electronic music that actually has some musical merit. I thought it best to avoid a music-by-numbers, copy-cat approach to production and just write a few nice chord progressions and melodies, because I can.

How does it differ from your last release?
The last release, Kireru, was an absolute filthy bitch. Balls-to-the-wall techno. By comparison this EP is meet-the-parents material.

What was the inspiration for this release?
Speaking honestly, after listening to promos, perusing the Beatport charts and enduring spam tracks from Soundcloud which Artist X has shared with me and 40million others, I thought, for the most part: “What a load of mediocre, banal and repugnant tripe.” I don’t really understand how producers can really enjoy making music if they’re copying to the letter what’s current and charting. Music creation is a deeply personal process for me, and although I draw some influence from music (Tangerine Dream anyone?) I would like to think what goes out is relevant to what I’m about. I suppose it’s written a little perpendicular to what’s ‘in’, but fuck what’s in – it’ll be out soon and the bandwagon will follow the next trend.

If you had the chance to play this in any club, which would it be?
The Kit Kat Club in Berlin. I’d bring my granny. She’s a mad bitch!
